Woodrow Butler Jr.

With hearts filled with love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce that the gentle hand of the Lord called Woodrow Butler, Jr. home to eternal glory on July 14, 2026.

Affectionately known as “Joe” by his family and friends, Woodrow was born on September 30, 1951, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Lou Bertha Butler and Woodrow Butler, Sr.

Joe attended the Richmond Public School System and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. A man of faith, he believed in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He often found comfort and spiritual guidance by tuning in to the services of St. Paul’s Baptist Church, which strengthened his faith and gave him the assurance of eternal life.

Joe dedicated 19½ years of service as a truck driver before retiring from G.D. Machinery Company. He took great pride in his work and was known as a dependable and hardworking man.

For 48 wonderful years, Joe shared a loving marriage with the love of his life, Kathleen B. Butler. Their enduring love was the foundation of their family, and he cherished her deeply every day of their marriage.

Joe was, above all, a devoted family man. He worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved and was a protector, caregiver, and steadfast source of strength for his daughters. His love for his family was unwavering, and they always knew they could depend on him.

In his leisure time, Joe enjoyed fishing, taking long drives, raced cars, and dining out, especially at his favorite restaurant, Golden Corral. Joe was also an avid motorcycle rider. He lived with dignity, dependability, and quiet strength. Joe was grounded, practical, and a no-nonsense man whose actions spoke louder than words. His wisdom, love, and presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Joe leaves to cherish his precious memory his three beloved daughters: Margo R. Goode (Joseph T.), Lakesha C. Butler, and Veronica D. Berkley; his cherished grandchildren, Teosha M. Coppedge (Johnathan), Davion M. Butler, De’Andre R. Williams, and Ty’Shaun D. Williams; one treasured great-granddaughter, Ivi’yahna K. Wilkes; six step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; his loving siblings, Lue Vene Lewis (Melvin T.), Jean S. Riddle (Woodrow), and Charles L. Butler (Lutricia); his beloved nieces, Ashley Powell, Tameka Scott, and Angela Evans (Torrance); his lifelong friend and brother by love, Roy G. Parker; his cherished grand-dogs, Bentley and Oscar; and his devoted pet bird of 30 years, Peddie. He also leaves a host of other loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
