Virginia M.
Hargrove-Scott
d. Apr 26, 2024
"I needed the quiet, not the confinement of my bed, but a beautiful valley of blessings instead. A place to grow richer in Jesus to hide. I needed the quiet, so He drew me aside." - Alice Mortenson
Virginia Hargrove Scott, formerly of Richmond, VA, stepped inside Heaven's Gate on Friday, April 26, 2024. She was born on June 9, 1959, in Henderson, NC to James Wheeler Sr. and the late Etta Crandell Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, the late Rufus and Alice Crandell, and paternal grandparents, James and Mary Wheeler.
With her childhood richly influenced by the church, she accepted Christ at an early age. She was an active and faithful member of Saint Paul's Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Doctor Lance Dean Watson; where she sang in the choir and ushered. Virginia also served as the First Lady at Union Hope Baptist Church.
"Ginny", as she was affectionately called, grew up in Hoboken, then Jersey City, New Jersey. During her teen years, she moved to Richmond, VA, and lived with her Aunt Evelyn Crandell-Bailey, Uncle Kenneth Crandell, and two cousins, Parrenita and Terreita Crandell until she married Alvin K. Hargrove Sr., on December 20, 1979. The two of them raised three beautiful children together.
Virginia was very family-oriented, she loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. They never wanted for anything, and if it was in her power to obtain it or do it, she did. She instilled in them the importance of knowing God and having a personal relationship with Him, being honest, trustworthy, hardworking, and respecting themselves and others. She always had a passion and compassion for taking care of people; it didn't matter if they were a baby, young or old. She followed that passion and became a nurse.
She was employed at Bon Secours' Memorial Regional Medical Center and Richmond Community Hospital as well as Christ Hospital in New Jersey. She was an excellent and exceptional nurse, always going out of her way to ensure her patients were well taken care of. Whatever they needed or wanted, if the facility didn't have it, she would use her own resources to obtain it. Ginny enjoyed nursing to the point of putting her own life at risk. Her daughter all but burned her nursing scrubs to get her to rest and retire. She was always concerned about others and she would put them before herself.
In Las Vegas, Nevada, Virginia married her current husband, Warren P. Scott, who has consistently, loved and cherished her unconditionally. She would always tell people how much her husband devoted his life to loving, spoiling, and taking good care of her. Undoubtedly, Ginny loved Warren and treated him like a king. The two of them had the kind of love that is undeniable. They were like two peas in a pod, the love that they shared was truly a blessing from God. Ginny kept things together and made things happen.
She was a God-fearing and fervently praying woman who would send bible verses or other spiritual encouraging messages to her family and friends daily. Ginny would never hesitate to tell people about the goodness of God. She was always concerned about others and how they were.
Virginia was a free-spirited, kind-hearted, informative, bright, caring, conservative, prim and proper woman. She was so full of life, she walked fast, talked fast, and caught on to things fast. She enjoyed traveling, she even went to Chang Mai, Thailand for five days with her daughter.
Now she has taken her ultimate trip to paradise, a place where nothing on this earth can compare. A place where there are streets of gold, and a mansion prepared especially for her. But most importantly, she has seen her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom she loved the most. Before she left us, on her sick bed, she stated, "I am not afraid of anything, I am ready for my Holy Ghost party, and you know the Holy Ghost party don't stop".
Virginia leaves to love and cherish her memories, her devoted husband, Warren Scott, three children, Mercedes Cleveland (husband Luther), Anthony Hargrove (wife Alshaia), and Alvin K. Hargrove Jr. (wife Pamela), seven grandchildren, Eriyana, Akeemyha, Jeremiah, Aerial, Tiara, Lauren, and Liam; father, James Wheeler Sr., brothers, James Wheeler Jr. (wife Desiree) and Kendall Wheeler (wife Treniecia); sister, Clara Wheeler-Wilson (husband Arthur); aunt, Evelyn Crandell; uncles, Allan and Kenneth Crandell; and many other nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
