Violet Laverne
Jefferson Ellis
d. Dec 7, 2024
Violet LaVerne Jefferson Ellis, affectionately called Verne, departed this life on December 7, 2024. She was predeceased by her mother, Rose Q. Jefferson; and son, Aubrey L. Jefferson. She joined Cedar Street Baptist Church at an early age, was baptized by Dr. B.W. Robertson Sr., and remained a member for over 60 years. She supported many ministries, but her passion was ushering with the members of the Rosa B. Harris Usher Ministry where she served in many positions.
While in high school, her work career started at the Frank 5 & 10 store that was located on Venable Street. She was a mighty Wildcat, graduating from Armstrong High School in 1966. She attended John Tyler Community College (now Brightpoint) where she studied the field of Information Technology and went to work for the City of Richmond as a Senior Control Tech. She retired after 30 years of service. She worked part time for Richmond Coliseum as an usherette and ticket seller for over 15 years and part time in Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation for 20 years. She truly believed that God blesses the child who has its own. So she worked hard.
She lived a simple, quiet, and humble life but loved to fellowship and it bought her joy to see everyone having fun. She had a special place in her heart for dogs, the Dallas Cowboys, and music, with emphasis on Frankie Beverly. She was always willing to lend a helping hand.
