Stanley M. Brown Sr.

Stanley Maurice Brown, Sr. affectionately known to many as “Slick,” was born on October 25, 1942, to the late James L. Brown Sr. and Vivian S. Brown. He peacefully departed this life on July 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, kindness, and love.

Stanley was preceded in death by his beloved son, Stanley Maurice Brown Jr.; brothers, James L. Brown Jr., Howard D. Brown, and Langston J. Brown; and his sister, Iris L. Brown.

A proud graduate of Armstrong High School’s Class of 1961, Stanley attended Richmond Public Schools, where he was known as an exceptional athlete. He excelled in football and track and was widely recognized for his athletic accomplishments in football, including scoring 13 touchdowns in the historic Big Gun Game between Armstrong High School and Maggie L. Walker High School.

Following graduation, Stanley answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1961. After completing his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with DuPont, where he worked as a sheet metal mechanic for 27 years before retiring. Committed to his craft, he earned an associate degree in Sheet Metal Mechanics from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in 1978.

Stanley’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for more than 40 years, where he served as a devoted deacon, sang faithfully in the Male Chorus, and actively participated in the Men’s Fellowship. His love for music also led him to become a co-founder of the Celebration Male Chorus, where his voice and spirit blessed many.

Stanley spent the last three years of his life at the Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center, where he continued to touch the lives of those around him with his warm smile and unwavering kindness.

Stanley was known for his enormous heart, infectious personality, and unforgettable sense of humor. He had a booming voice and a reputation for being the family’s loud-mouth jokester. He loved picking with people just for fun, always finding a way to make others laugh with his playful teasing and clever remarks He had a remarkable gift for giving people unique nicknames that perfectly fit their personalities, and many of those names stuck for years becoming terms of endearment among family and friends. One of the traditions everyone looked forward to was his famous annual Christmas party for his close male friends. It was more than just a gathering–it was a celebration of friendship, laughter, storytelling, and brotherhood that Stanley faithfully hosted year after year. His laughter was contagious, his stories were unforgettable, and his larger-than-life presence could light up any room. Behind all the jokes was a man of deep compassion, generosity, and unconditional love. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or simply make someone’s day a little brighter. His joyful spirit, memorable sense of humor, cherished traditions, and the countless smiles he brought to others will be deeply missed but forever remembered by everyone who knew and loved him.

Stanley leaves to cherish in memory his devoted wife, Velma A. Brown; loving daughters, Michelle A. Moody and Nicole Y. Brown; caring grandchildren, Sydney T. Brown, Logan S. Brown, Cameron M. Jeter, Ernest L. Jeter Jr., and Stormy K. Brown; and great-grandchildren, Dior K. Redd, Autumn N. Redd, Ocean A. Jones, and devoted niece, Lisa Garrett; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and countless lives touched by his love and generosity.

Though Stanley’s earthly journey has come to an end, the legacy of “Slick” lives on through the family he cherished, the community he served, the faith he lived by, and he countless hearts he inspired. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
