Shirley transitioned peacefully on the morning of June 28, 20205, with her partner, Alfred Carter Jr., by her side.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Inez Dickerson; father, Junius W. Meredith Sr.; stepmother, Catherine J. Meredith; four sisters, Mozelle Bernice Chenault, Joyce Ann Dickerson, Vanessa Mayo, and Angela Patterson; niece, Michelle Dickerson; and her nephew, Michael Dickerson.

She leaves to cherish her with fond memories and much love her brother, Junius W. Meredith Jr.; sisters, Valerie Drumgoole (Reginald), and Vanessa Andrews; uncle, Norman E. Dickerson, aunt, Betty Meredith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including her closest friends, Marilyn Harris, Katina P. Edmonds, and Grace Anderson-Hawkins.

A Celebration of Shirley's life will be held at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
