Ruth R Bentley was born on August 28,1933 to the late William Thorpe and Myrtle Virginia Twine of Henrico, VA. She was married to the late John W Bentley who preceded her in death, along with her son Tyrone O Thorpe, a sister Elizabeth V Waller and brothers William Billy Thorpe, Daniel E Thorpe, Archie L. Thorpe and James Z Thorpe. Ruth departed this life on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the age of 90.
She received her early education in Henrico County Public School and graduated from Virginia Randolph High School Class of 1951. She worked at Thalhimers department store in Fine China department for 29 years. She continued her career with Peebles for 10 years. She loved greeting her customers and ringing up their fashionable items.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St James Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Ladies Auxiliary Usher Board and Pistos Sheepfold. She was a faithful working member who loved her Pastor Dr. Kevin L Sykes and congregation.
She loved to decorate her home during the holiday season, shopping, going on family vacations to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Niagara Falls Canada and Disney World. A chartered bus would load up the duo Ruth and Doris Somerville families and friends at the Bentley's house. The fourth of July was their time to head south.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Connie Winston, Pamela Christian and Valerie Martin, sons John Bentley (Bernice) and Randy Bentley, a daughter in law Gaylen Thorpe. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchild, other relatives, neighbors, devoted friend Ms. Gail Cotman, Cousin Delores Coates, caregiver Tiffany Darby and DaVita Dialysis.
