Obituary

Mrs. Rose Marie (Nichols) Munford peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the age of 89. She transitioned at her home, lovingly cared for by her devoted niece, Thomasine Lipscomb.

Born on September 21, 1935, in Richmond, Virginia, Rose was the beloved daughter of the late James Arthur Nichols, Sr. and Lucille Lomax Nichols. She was educated in the Richmond Public School System and graduated from Armstrong High School.

At an early age, Rose moved to New York City, where she embarked on a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service. She retired after 35 years of faithful service. Following retirement, she and her husband relocated to the Poconos in Pennsylvania, where they spent several peaceful years before returning to their native Virginia.

A woman of deep faith, Rose was a devoted member of St. John's United Holy Church, where she loved worshipping and attending services until her health no longer permitted. She was a spiritual soul who found great joy in reading the Bible and recording her favorite scriptures.

Rose cherished life and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed traveling, attending family gatherings, plays, Broadway shows, and fellowshipping with her church community.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Munford; her parents, James Arthur Nichols, Sr. and Lucille Lomax Nichols; her siblings, James Arthur Nichols, Jr., Richard O. Nichols, Walter L. Nichols, Jean E. Clarke, and Naomi D. Montgomery.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Diedre Munford of Gainesville, Georgia, and Charlene Munford of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Shekirra, Shaquille, Shamari, Darius, Shakye, Shylar, Shyanne, Shane, and River; great-granddaughter, Aniyah; her sister, Mary Marrow of Henrico, Virginia; her brother, Keith A. Nichols (Mana) of Glen Allen, Virginia; sister-in-law, Sarah K. Nichols of Cambria Heights, New York; a devoted niece and caregiver, Thomasine Lipscomb of Richmond, Virginia; treasured friends, Lou, Gwen, Margaret and Carolyn; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
