Roderick L.
Greene
d. Feb 9, 2025
Roderick "Rod" Lamont Greene was born on April 16, 1979, in Henrico, Virginia, to Ruth Williams Greene and the late Robert Earl Greene Sr. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Lillian Williams and Percy Jefferson and Mary (Sis) E. Greene. He was called home by God on Sunday, February 9, 2025. He is survived by his loving mother, Ruth; brothers and sisters, Andre Sr., Robert Jr., Sharon, JeRoyd, and Donna; his aunts, Sheila Williams and Freda Greene; and a host of aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and devoted friends.
Rod was a man of great passion, dedication, and love—especially for everyone he touched. He attended Varina and graduated from John Marshall High School, where he excelled in football and basketball. Following high school, Rod continued his education at Virginia State University, earning his undergraduate degree in Physical Education and later obtaining a Master's of Education.
Rod's deep love for children and commitment to helping them grow in sports and life were the driving forces behind everything he did. He began his teaching career at J.B. Stuart (now known as Obama Elementary) and taught at Bellevue, Woodville, Fox, and Swansboro Elementary. He went on to teach health and physical education at John Tyler Community College. His passion for mentorship extended beyond the classroom, leading him to his own business, Team Greene, which he treasured. Team Greene offered children of all ages the opportunity to learn various sports. He was honored as the Coach of the Year for the Jr. NBA, the official recreational youth leagues of the NBA and WNBA
His impact was felt not only in the classroom and on the field but also in the lives of every child he encouraged, guided, and believed in. Rod's legacy of kindness, strength, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
