Robert Eugene Smith Sr. departed this life February 1, 2026. He was born September 2, 1934, to the late Mrs. Florine Jones Smith and Mr. Emmett Smith Sr.
Robert was educated in Richmond Public Schools, graduating from Maggie Walker High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Moale during the Korean War.
Robert accepted his lord and savior Jesus Christ at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, where he served as a faithful member and song leader in the Men's Sanctuary Choir, Men's Bible Study and Men's Fellowship.
He met and married Beatrice Bibbs in January of 1955. To this union six children were born. He was an average golfer, enjoyed Washington Commanders football, family vacations and fellowship with his family and friends.
In 1994, Robert retired from A. H. Robins Pharmaceutical Company after 31 years of service in Animal Care Management. He later worked and retired from Animal Care Management with MCV Hospital.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice Bibbs Smith; mother, Florine Jones Smith; father, Emmett Smith Sr.; two brothers, Emmett Jr. and Howard Sr.; two sisters, Phyllis Brandon and Emily Green; one grandchild, Lydell M. Mosby; one great-grandchild, Diamond Smith; and one son-in-law, Daryl L. Mosby.
He is survived by two sons, Robert E. Smith Jr. (Teresa) and Stephen R. Smith; four daughters, Phyllis M. Smith, Linda S. Haskins, Beverly S. Ridgley (Kervin) and Debra S. Mosby; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Bernard C. Bibbs Sr. (Joanne); three nephews, Emmett Smith III (Ada), William Brandon (Annette), and Howard Smith Jr. (Marilyn); four nieces, Joanne Smith, Teresa Grandy (James), Marcia Kittrell and Gladys Kirkland (Charles); one devoted cousin, Janie Jones; a devoted friend, Arthur Blackwell; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
