Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Raymond Paige Sr., who peacefully transitioned on December 8, 2025, at the age of 77.

Raymond was born on February 27, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia, to Blanche Johnson and Samuel Paige Sr. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, whose presence and guidance meant so much to all who knew him.

Throughout his life, Raymond was deeply rooted in his faith and had a true love for church. His relationship with God guided the way he lived, loved, and served others. He often reminded those around him of his favorite saying, "You are in the world, but not of the world," referencing John 17, a scripture that reflected how he believed and how he lived. He was known for his wisdom, strength, and steady presence, always encouraging others to walk with purpose, humility, and faith.

Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Blanche Johnson and Samuel Paige Sr., and by his former spouse, Michelle Paige.

He is survived by his son, Raymond Paige Jr., and his former spouse, Jane Paige; his daughter-in-law, Vanessa Paige; his daughters, Alexis Paige and Angela Witherspoon; his nephews and niece, Christopher Witherspoon, Michael Witherspoon, Earl Dandridge, and LaRita Dandridge and his great nieces and nephews, his cherished grandchildren, Dmontre Witherspoon, Iyonna Witherspoon, Deja Joyner, and Zion Paige; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Donna Pierce, John Pierce, Joshua Pierce, Alonzo Witherspoon, Randy Witherspoon, Kimberly Witherspoon, and Sonya Fullenwilder; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, grandchildren, loving family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, Richmond, Virginia. A public viewing will take place on Friday, December 26, from 2:00–8:00 PM. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that Raymond is now resting in the presence of the Lord he loved so deeply. His life was a living testimony of faith, and he consistently reminded us how to walk in this world without becoming consumed by it. His words, "You are in the world, but not of the world," were not just something he said—they were something he lived.

Raymond's faith, wisdom, and quiet strength will continue to guide us as we carry forward the lessons he instilled in us: to love deeply, stand firm in our beliefs, and trust God in all things. While we will miss him dearly, we rejoice knowing that his earthly journey is complete and his eternal one has begun.

"Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it."

— Ecclesiastes 12:7
