Obituary

Ollie Holoman Wright Jones (affectionately referred to as "Pookat") peacefully transitioned while in hospice care at her home with her family by her side. She was born, March 27, 1959, in Jackson, North Carolina to Redell and Paul Wright, the first born of 3 siblings.

The family moved to Roanoke Va.  Ollie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and joined the Loudon Avenue Christian Church in Roanoke Va.  She was educated in the Roanoke Public Schools and graduated from William Flemming High School. Furthering her education she attended the Western Community College.

Ollie started her family with a son, Shawn.  She later married Paul Jones and had a daughter, Denakia. Ollie moved her family to Richmond Va. She was a loving mother and grandmother with a lively, outspoken and nurturing spirit. Her compassion to care for others led her to embark on a career path of caring for others. She became a licensed CNA and worked for Lucy Coors Assisted Senior Living for 23 years until her health began to fail. Pookat's mother is a resident of the facility, and she was able to give her that extra personal care that only Pookat could give.

Pookat enjoyed life, and she had a real passion for decorating, especially her Daddy's home inside and out at Christmas time; attending family birthday celebrations and other family gatherings and there were many.

Ollie was preceded in death by her loving and devoted father "Daddy", Paul Wright; uncle, Glen Wright; aunts, Barbara Brown, and Annie Catrell; and friend, Jamarea Whitlow. Ollie leaves a legacy of love to her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Those left to reminisce and cherish fond memories are her devoted and loving children, Shawn and Denakia Wright; former husband, Paul Jones; mother, Redell Akers; step-mother, Myrtle Wright; sister, Gaynell Kersey; brothers, Curtis and Travis Wright; grandmothers, Josephine Black, and Olive Dennis; grandchildren, Ke'asia, Shaunyai, Destiny, Chrishawn, and Jayceon; uncles, James Wright (Jeanette), Clifton Wright (Paulette), Alfred Wright (Linda), and Michael Wright (Ronna); aunt, Joyce Thompson (Peter); a bonus daughter, Lavon Whitlow; and Lavon's children, TiAyna Terry and Loyal Terry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
