Maxine V.
Johnson
d. Apr 9, 2024
Maxine Vonda Johnson was born August 26, 1945, in Richmond, Virginia, to Truvanah Griffin and Charlie James Johnson, who are now both deceased. Maxine departed this earthly realm for her heavenly home on April 9, 2024.
At a young age Maxine gave her life to the Lord and decided to get baptized. She was a God-fearing woman who dedicated her life to the Lord while she was on this earth. Maxine was a faithful, loyal, devoted, and dedicated member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for over 50+ years. While she worshiped at Bethlehem Baptist Church, she became a member of the Royal Ushers Ministry.
Maxine attended Buchanan Elementary School, Bellevue Elementary School, and Armstrong High School. Maxine graduated from Armstrong High School in the year 1963.
Maxine worked in the banking industry for 30+ years, retiring from Central Fidelity Bank and SunTrust Bank. On April 8, 2004, she completed a nurse's aide education program. After retiring from the bank, she worked for Senior Connections for a little while.
Maxine was the youngest of seven children. She had four brothers and two sisters: Van Griffin, Nazerine Griffin, Willis Griffin and Charlie James Johnson Jr., all deceased and her sisters, Edith Jefferson and Lee Ola Massey.
Maxine and her children were among the first families to move into Dove Court apartments. Many who lived in that area during that time considered her to be one of the Dove Court mothers.
Maxine was an individual who enjoyed her life to the fullest. She was a woman who loved any kind of music, and she loved to dance… in other words, she was the life of the party. She was great at doing makeup, and she was someone who was always "fly" from head to toe. When she stepped out, she stepped out correctly. She loved dogs and she knew how to throw down in the kitchen. Maxine was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan. Maxine loved to play backgammon with her son Randall, and she loved all sports, such as football, basketball, boxing, tennis, and watching the Olympics.
Maxine loved her family. For her to be the youngest of her siblings, she was the family historian. She did anything and everything she could for her family.
She leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy: four children, Donald Johnson, Joan Johnson, Dr. John F. Johnson, and Randall Johnson; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, devoted friends, and coworkers.
