Mavis E. Myers

Mavis E. Myers was born to Ruth Hunter and Samuel E. Hunter on September 30, 1956 in Richmond, Virginia. She departed this life on Tuesday May 26, 2026. Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Kevin B. Myers; father Samuel E. Hunter Sr. and brother Donald Hunter.

Mavis Dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She attended Richmond Public Schools, where she was a dedicated cheerleader at John Marshall High School.

She faithfully served in the church’s deliverance ministry alongside her beloved brother, Kevin Hunter. Together, they ministered to countless individuals through prayer encouragement, and spiritual guidance. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived each day with a servant’s heart.

Mavis dedicated many years of her professional life as a Certified Nursing Assistant, faithfully caring for others at Eastern Star Nursing Home, Forest Hill Convalescent Center, and Westport Nursing Home. She possessed a natural gift for caregiving and found fulfillment in helping those in need. Her compassion, patience, and commitment to serving others left a lasting impression on the residents, families, and coworkers who had the privilege of knowing her. In addition to her work in healthcare, Mavis served as a Preschool Teacher’s Assistant at Metropolitan African Baptist Church, where she lovingly nurtured and educated young lives and sharing the values of faith, love, and learning.

Family was one of the greatest joys of Mavis’s life. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, creating memories filled with laughter, love. She shared a particularly special bond with her mother, Ruth Hunter, whom she loved dearly. Mavis did everything she could to care for and support her mother, demonstrating a level of devotion and selflessness that reflected the depth of her love. One of her most admired qualities was her honesty. She was direct and straightforward; she said what she meant and meant what she said. People respected her authenticity, her wisdom, and her willingness to speak the truth with love. Mavis was a true definition of a diva. She loved fashion, beauty, and presenting herself with elegance and confidence. Wherever she went, she turned heads with her God-given beauty, radiant smile, and impeccable style. Yet it was not only her outward beauty that captivated others, but it was also her warm heart, infectious personality, and joyful spirit that made her unforgettable.

She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted daughters Tanya Shelton, Aisha Scott and loving stepdaughter Nicole Lucus; devoted mother, Ruth Hunter; devoted grandchildren, Kemonte Shelton, Keondre Shelton, Maleah Mouzone and Nyla Nabi; beloved siblings; nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Mavis was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by faith, service, love, strength, endurance and an unforgettable spirit. She touched the lives of everyone she encountered through her kindness, honesty, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family, church, community and friends. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared will continue to inspire generations to come.
