Mary C.
Younger Meredith
d. Nov 2, 2025
Ms. Mary C. Younger Meredith was born on January 2, 1955, to Alfonzo Christian and Catherine Younger. She was preceded in death by both parents, as well as her husband, Clarence Meredith Sr.; and both brothers, Wayne and Keith Younger.
As a child growing up, Mary acquired the nickname "Darlin." Always calm and shy with a mild demeanor, deeming her not an angel but a "Darlin' Darlin' Baby."
Mary attended Richmond Public Schools, where in her later years of education, she was employed by Standard Drug Company. She was employed there for over 25 years with every turning of that company and every name change. Mary's work ethics were in tow. She carried that smile and exuberant class with a satisfactory style of customer service wherever she endeavored. In 2001, Mary resigned from the drug store industry and began employment with 7-Eleven, where all of East End got to know her for her sass, wit, and larger-than-life earrings (oh, the shy gal was gone). She was also known for her high fashion sense. If her outfit didn't make a statement, her wigs with handmade jewelry definitely did.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age. While maturing in the admonition of the Lord, she attended Logos The Word Ministries under the leadership of Pastors Cliffton and Nina Williams. She loved listening to gospels to lift her spirits.
Mary loved company with lots of laughter. If you were ever in her presence, it's pretty certain you were the "blunt" of a joke or two or three. She also added lots of love to her food. She lived and loved to cook for family and friends. Well known for her Mac & Cheese, fall-off-the-bone Ox Tails that melt in your mouth, seasoned-to-perfection chitterlings that had the non-pork eaters trying them if only a forkful, squash cornbread, and homemade chili.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories three children, Clarence Jr., Clarice, and Marki Meredith; four grands, Ci'esha Minor, Jordan & Josiah Meredith, and Lucas Wright; two devoted sisters, Crystal Younger-Cauthorne and Shirley Christian-Griffin; several nieces and nephews, with five she played a huge role in raising as her own: Renotta, Ameisha, Kristen, Kimberly, and Kelsey; and a host of uncles, aunts, family, and friends. She left The Golden Girls 1 short, leaving Martha, Anna, and Dale. Your girl will continue to bring you ladies laughter.
Anyone who's ever conversed over the phone with her would know and has come to love those final words of the call because of her signature hum saying "Talk to Ya Later, Mmmm Bye-Bye."
