Mary A.
Young
d. Apr 9, 2024
It's with heavy hearts, we bid farewell to our beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, as she was called to eternal rest with the Lord on Tuesday morning, April 9, 2024, at the age of 89, she took God's hand and whispered to Him, "it is well, it is well with my soul" as she was peacefully ushered to rest comfortably in His arms.
Mary Alice Wade Young blessed her way into this world on March 29, 1935, in Halifax County, Virginia, the oldest of four children born to the late Emma Craddock and Beverly Wade, Sr.
Mary Alice was blessed to share her life with the late Frank Young, Jr. for 31 years and to this union they had two handsome sons, Ronnie, and Randy. They were her pride and joy. She cherished her family showering them with unconditional love, wisdom, and unwavering support.
She was a proud and faithful member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church where she served under the leadership of the late Dr. Paul Nichols, Bishop Rudolph McKissick, Jr. and now Dr. Sylvester T. Smith. She served on the Deaconess Board for 10 years, worked in the children nursery and on the hospitality committee. She adored cooking.
Mary Alice had a serving heart. She was employed with the Schwarzschild Family for more than 23 years providing love and care to their young sons Adam and Todd Schwarzschild. She loved them as her own sons. Later, working for Richmond Public Schools for seven years.
Mary Alice was not just any woman; she was a symphony of sass, humor, and resilience. Her strength was unmeasurable. She had a love for golf and football, especially if Tiger Woods or Russell Wilson were playing. She would watch each sport to the end.
She leaves a lifetime of memories to her devoted sons, Ronnie and Randy Young, loving daughter-in-love, Anita Pouncy Young; her compassionate two sisters Sarah Childress, South Boston, VA and Ardelia McLaughlin, Greensboro, NC; brother-in-law, Rev. Ronnie L. McLaughlin; 21 nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Beverly Wade, Jr.
Her legacy of strength, love and resilience will continue to inspire us for generations to come. Well done thy good and faithful servant. WE LOVE YOU a bushel and a peck.
