Obituary

Lillie Mae Johnson, the youngest child of James Moore Sr. and Ida Elizabeth Moore, was born on Friday, April 1, 1938 in Lawrenceville, Virginia. Her parents, and siblings; Lois Smith, Lola Walker, MaryAnn Stith, and James Moore Jr. preceded her death. Wilbur Milton Johnson Sr. her husband of 42 years, and Shannon Holley, a grandson, also preceded her death. She transitioned to her eternal home on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Lillie graduated from Brunswick County Public Schools. Eventually, she met and married Wilbur Milton Johnson Sr. and they raised three children, Deborah, Sharon and Wilbert Jr. She was a housewife and mother until her children began elementary school. Then, she learned how to drive and began her working career. She worked for Milheiser Inc. as a machine operator. She also worked for Pohlig Bros. as a machine operator, at the same time. A hard worker, she liked to earn and save her own money. After retiring from her full-time jobs she worked for Henrico County Public Schools as a Food Services employee, feeding the children at lunchtime brought her a sense of purpose and joy.

A woman of strong Christian faith, Lillie was a faithful member of Fourth Baptist Church for decades, serving as a member of the Ladies Usher Board and the Senior Choir. She treasured her church family.

She found joy in many activities, including gardening, cowboy movies, dancing, travel, opera and theater, gospel music, especially Mahalia Jackson, whose hymns her mother sang to her as a child. She also enjoyed decorating her home and creating beautiful spaces.

Loving memories of Lillie will remain forever in the hearts of her daughters, Deborah Alexander and Sharon Spinner; son, Wilbert Milton Johnson Jr.; grandsons, Corey Alexander and Marq Spinner; great-granddaughter, Oriana Alexander; great-grandsons, Jullian Pitt and Roman Alexander; sisters-in-law, Cyril Moore, Gloria Singleton and brother-in-law, Edward Harris; devoted friends, Berneice Armstead and Delores Marable, dear family friends, Donshea Smith and Margo Lewis; devoted caregivers, Juanita Newbold and Tia Archer; and a host of beloved extended family and friends.
