Lillian L. Richards, 81, of New Kent, VA, departed this life Thursday, February 23, 2023. She was affectionately known as Tommie. She was born March 1, 1941, to the late John and Ellinor Thompson of New Kent, VA. As a young child, she joined Lebanon Baptist Church. She received her education in New Kent at George W. Watkins School. She joined the United States Army in 1960 and received an honorable discharge in 1963. After the Army, she attended the Smithdeal Massey Business College and had various jobs after business school. She leaves to cherish her memory two brothers, Stanley Thompson of Brooklyn, NY, and Alvin Thompson (Cheryl) of New Kent, VA; one sister, Vernell Thompson of Brooklyn, NY; one sister-in-law, Vivian Thompson of Richmond, VA; one brother-in-law, Moses Upshaw Sr. of Quinton, VA; two special nieces, Beverly Spruill and Elsie Thompson (Henry); additional nieces, Carolyn Pryor, Maxine Green, Pamela Patrom, Wyllie Thompson, Angelita Joshua (Archie), Kathleen Miles (Daniel), and Tiffany Spruill; one great-niece, Portia Terry (Richard); three special nephews, Vannie Spruill III (Carthelia), Jason Johnson, and Tremon Haynesworth; one special great-great-nephew, Shaquan Johnson; three BFFs, Lois, Sherri "Last One" Bradby, and Vivian Coleman; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where viewing will take place Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd., on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 12 noon. Family and friends who plan to join the procession to the cemetery will meet at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m.
