Obituary

Mr. Keith Winston Rustin Sr was born in Richmond,VA on Miller's farm which became Heckler's farm which is now Fairfield Middle school, Eastgate shopping center and Heckler's village.

In 1942 the family moved off the farm and into a new home in Fair Oaks. Dad graduated from Virginia Randolph in the early 50's and went on to North Carolina A&T State University on a baseball scholarship.

He pitched for A&T for three years and was drafted by the AAA team of the Cincinnati Reds. However his dream was cut short due to a shoulder injury.

He was recognized as one of the best baseball pitchers for North Carolina A&T in the 1950's by being inducted into the North Carolina A&T Hall of Fame in 2009. Dad went on to continue his studies at Virginia Union University and earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1963.

Dad worked for the United States postal service for the next thirty years as a letter carrier. His dedication to his job earned him a meritorious award in 1993.

Dad attended Lebanon Baptist Church in New Kent, Virginia for more than 30 years. Because of his dedication and service to Lebanon Baptist Church he was elevated to Trustee.

Dad was an avid fisherman and in 2009. We were fishing off the coast of North Carolina where he caught a seven foot sailfish. He got out on the water as often as he could until the mind was willing but the body would not allow it.
