Obituary

Joshua F. Pierce Jr., affectionately known as "Josh," peace-fully departed this life on February 21, 2026. Born on October 2, 1949, Josh lived a life marked by dedication to family, faith, and friendship.

At an early age, Josh joined Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church, where his spiritual foundation was formed. He attended Armstrong High School and later answered the call to serve his country. Josh proudly served two years in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge for his faithful service.

Throughout his working years, Josh built a strong and depend-able career. He worked as a Radio Tele Procedure specialist and a Wireman, demonstrating skill and commitment in every role he held. His employment included time with Shelcore Toy Company, Atlantic Distribution, and BEX Delivery Company. After years of hard work and dedication, he retired in October 2019.

Josh truly cherished time spent with his family. He created lasting memories on family vacations to Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, and Buckroe Beach—places filled with laughter, sunshine, and togetherness. He enjoyed simple pleasures that brought him great joy: playing cards with family and friends, especially with his beloved twin brother, John Pierce; shooting pool (earning a reputation as a true "pool shark"); savoring crabs; and spending evenings watching Sci-Fi movies, game shows, and sports.

A devoted sports fan, Josh especially loved basketball—both women's and men's—and football. He proudly cheered for his favorite team, the Carolina Panthers. Bowling was another passion of his, and he faithfully participated in two leagues, "Main to James" and "Odds & Ends," for many years, building friendships and sharing countless good times along the way.

Josh was preceded in death by his parents Joshua & Catherine Pierce Sr.; brother Thomas H. Pierce Sr.; sister-in-law Diane Pierce and many beloved relatives.

Josh leaves to cherish his memory: devoted daughter, Deborah Overby; son-in-law, Troy T. Overby Sr., sister, Jane Paige; brother, John Pierce and sister, Donna Anderson (James), all from Richmond, VA.

Josh is also survived by his sister-in-law Donna May Pierce (SC); two grandchildren, Troy T. Overby Jr. A.K.A. Duece and Deja Overby; four great-grandchildren, Kattelya Overby, Kalinda Overby, Keith Overby and Kameryn Walker; one niece, Latarica Pierce Washington (Neil) (SC); three nephews, Raymond Paige Jr. (Vanessa) (VA), Edward Pierce (LaKetha) (SC), and Thomas Pierce Jr. (Simone) (SC) and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
