Jesse J. Fortune

Mr. Jesse Jerome Fortune was born March 21, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia to the late Jessie J. and Marjorie W. Fortune. He entered into eternal rest on July 11, 2026. Leaving behind a lot of love and dedication to be remembered. He was predeceased by his father, mother and son, Alphonzo Bennett, and grandson, Stephene White.

He graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1966. He then went into the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He later went to Vietnam where he was honorably discharged in 1970. He worked for Richmond Public School System for 31 years.

Jesse is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Ruby Anderson-Fortune; three sons, Anthony Fortune, James Bennett and Stephene Anderson; two daughters, Carnettia Harris and Temeka Fortune; one brother William “Bobby” Fortune; one sister, Mary “Kitty” Fortune; three sisters-in-law, Clara Andersom-Williams (Thomas), Ruth Johnson and Magdelene Anderson; several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins and friends.

Professional services entrusted to Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, at 11 a.m. Interment Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
