James L.
Norman Jr.
d. Dec 14, 2025
James Lloyd Norman, Jr., affectionately known as "Jamie," age 55, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, transitioned peacefully from labor to reward on the morning of December 14, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital (ICU).
James was born on February 17, 1970, in Richmond, Virginia, to Adelaide D. Norman and James L. Norman, Sr. He was preceded in death by James B. Norman, Otelia Norman, Adelaide Saunders, Laurence M. Saunders, Gloria Webb, Herman Webb, Sr., Charles Days, Sheryl Days, Herman Webb, Jr., Delores Norman, Constance Norman, Laverne Norman, and Richard Norman.
James was a proud graduate of Lee-Davis High School in Mechanicsville, Virginia. He continued his education at Virginia Tech, where he studied architecture. Professionally, James dedicated more than 30 years of faithful service to the Department for the Blind and Visually Impaired. At the time of his passing, he had recently been promoted to the position of Assistant Director. James was deeply committed to his work and was widely respected for his integrity, leadership, and compassion.
James was loved, admired, and respected by all who knew him. He was known to be compassionate, gentle, generous, friendly, humble, optimistic, resilient, charismatic, and charming—qualities that reflected his deep devotion to God and his family.
While James was a devoted son and sibling, the greatest joy of his life was his role as a father. Nothing compared to the love and devotion he poured into his only son, Blake. James was intentional about sowing into Blake's life, instilling strong values and preparing him to be a responsible and respected man in society. They shared many unforgettable moments together, including attending a live Washington Commanders game in November 2025, accompanied by his beloved "sissie/auntie," Janeé. A die-hard fan of both the Washington Commanders and Virginia Tech, James eagerly attended games in person or watched whenever possible. He also cherished time spent traveling, enjoying family gatherings, and visiting theme parks with Blake.
James leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, Blake Norman; his parents, Reverends James L. and Adelaide Norman, Sr.; one brother, Jermaine L. Norman; one sister, Janeé L. Norman; two godchildren, Quinton D. Narcisse and Tori J. Dickerson; and a host of other loving relatives, friends, and colleagues who will forever treasure his life, legacy, and loving spirit.
