Obituary

James "Jim" William Campbell was born on December 16, 1951, to the union of Albert Campbell and Martha Grant in Warrenton, VA. Jim received his formal education from Armstrong High School. Jim accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and eventually joined First Union Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, VA. He departed this life on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Chippenham Hospital in Chesterfield, VA, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim joined the Army after graduating from high school, where he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany for 3 years. Jim grew to love German culture and spoke fondly of his experience abroad. After an honorable discharge, Jim moved on to film development where he served for over 20 years at Media General. Ever devoted to connecting with people in a special way, Jim transitioned to formal transportation services where he was a chauffeur for over 20 years until his retirement.

Jim was a talented trumpet player and enjoyed all genres of music, especially jazz. He frequently talked about his love for music and would often be found not only listening to music, but also singing with his melodic baritone voice. He especially enjoyed singing "One in a Million" by Larry Graham, and also the Temptations rendition of "Silent Night." Jim had a great sense of humor, he really enjoyed making his family laugh and had a distinct laugh that would brighten anyone's day. He also enjoyed telling family childhood stories, and took great pride in sharing these stories with his daughters, nieces, and nephews.

Jim was blessed with two daughters whom he adored. His first daughter Dena C. Taylor was born on June 17, 1977, in Richmond, VA. His second daughter Jennifer C. O'Neal was born on February 15,1984, in Richmond, VA. Jim truly cherished the time that he spent with his girls, and really embraced the role of being a "Girl Dad."

James was preceded in death by his father, Albert Campbell; mother, Martha Smith; devoted daughter, Jennifer C. O'Neal; brother, Albert "Beaver" Campbell; sister, Yvonne Bouldin; nephew, Anthony Campbell; and brother-in-law, Thomas Bouldin III.

Left to cherish his precious memory are his loving daughter, Dena C. Taylor (Brent); son-in-law Greg O'Neal, grandchildren, Sydney Taylor and Justin Taylor; stepfather, Lewis Smith; brother, Carlos Campbell (Ethel); sister-in-law, Doris Campbell; nieces and nephews, Tiffany Brissett (Orville), Carlos "Scooter" Campbell (Kathryn), Clarence "Bam" Campbell, Lisa Campbell Hord (Mark), LaToyia Bouldin, Thomas Bouldin IV (Sabrina); and lifelong friend Bonita Byrd; and a host of several other close friends and family.
