Obituary

On the evening of September 23, 2025, the Lord called home our beloved Isabelle Winningham McGill. Isabelle was the last of 4 daughters born to William Winningham and Catherine Hamit Winningham in Sumter, South Carolina on July 3, 1935. At a very early age Isabelle began her career as a seamstress by tailoring her own designs due to her not liking the traditional fit of clothing that she purchased. Isabelle would take the clothing her parents bought her and turn them into perfectly fitting outfits for herself. When it was time for Isabelle to join the workforce, she became a seamstress for M & B Headwear. Throughout life Isabelle was devoted to her faith and deeply loved the Lord. She enjoyed early life with her sisters before relocating to Virginia as a family. Isabelle and her sister Julia grew extremely close, and their bond was unsurpassed. Soon after Isabelle met Donald McGill, and a match was made. The pair wed and started their family in Richmond, VA. Isabelle enjoyed family functions, all things related to fashion, and most of all she enjoyed and loved being a devoted mother. Isabelle was not only a mother to her children, but she nurtured, raised, and was always willing to take care of others. She was a babysitter to many and ensured that any children in her care would be safe and well taken care of. Eventually, Isabelle was given the title of "Grandmother". From the very first grandchild to the most recent great-great-grandchild, Isabelle found an entirely new type of love. She was forever devoted to all her grandchildren. If there was a graduation, birthday, or an event of any kind that was meaningful, she would make sure she was there. Isabelle took on the task of raising several of her grandchildren in home and saw each one of them through until their graduations. In recent years, Isabelle joined Facebook and enjoyed scrolling through updates of her family and friends. Her television would most often be tuned in to tennis or CNN for entertainment, and she had grown fond of spending time out on her patio, not to be confused; she was not a lover and friend of the outdoors, but she had found her middle ground.

Isabelle was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald McGill; parents, William and Catherine Winningham; and her sisters, Helen Williams, Willie Mae Yancy, and Julia Williams. Isabelle leaves a legacy of love and family to cherish her life, including her daughter and caregiver, Donnette McGill; devoted granddaughters, Annissa Easter (Bobby), Charnette McGill, and Ansa Taylor (Alonzo); devoted grandsons, Antoine McGill (Liller), Miguel Valdez (formerly Jered McGill), and Nehemiah Anderson; 6 great-grandchildren, Kennedee McGill, Tamieya Turner, Bethany Luckett, Damorre McGill, Riley Gilliam, and Alonzo Taylor IV; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Abraham Crawford, Eli McGill, Laeani McGill, and Je'Miles Temple; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
