Irby McGuire Johnson Jr. was born in Richmond, VA on April 19, 1948, and was called to his heavenly home on May 15, 2025.  He was born to Irby M. Johnson Sr. and Jewell H. Williams who preceded him in death.   He was also preceded in death by his wife Catherine after 54 years of marriage, and brothers, Gregory and Craig Johnson.

He attended Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Armstrong High School, Class of 1966.  After graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War and later attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, majoring in Computer Science.  Until he became ill, Irby Jr. was a devoted member of Thirty-First Street Baptist Church and served in various ministries.

Irby Jr. retired from the Bank of America, after 30 years of employment.  He also worked at Estes Logistics, Virginia ABC store and Kroger store. In his leisure time, he enjoyed baseball, basketball, and football.  His favorite teams were the Atlantic Braves, LA Lakers and Washington Commanders.  He also enjoyed reading mystery novels and playing the VA Lottery.  Irby Jr. was a devoted family man, and especially loved Friday night dinner outings with his wife and children.

He is survived by daughter, Jewell A Johnson; three sons, Andre, Irby III and Marcus Johnson; two grandsons, Javon and Irby IV Johnson; beloved sister, Jennifer (Larry) Faison; niece, LaTangela Light; nephew, Eldridge Johnson; great nephew, Makari Johnson; and sister-in-law, Valencia Johnson. He is also survived by devoted caregivers, Vivian Solomon and Lynn Whitted; and a host of cousins, other family members and friends.
