Gregory A. Habeeb

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Gregory Ashmar Habeeb, who departed this life on June 1, 2026, at the age of 71. Gregory was born on May 26, 1955, in White Plains, New York, to the late Calvin Smith and Emma Smith.

Gregory was a loving father, devoted grandfather, cherished great-grandfather, beloved brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by four of his sisters and his brother. He leaves behind his loving sister, Vernell Smith-Williams (George) of California, who will forever cherish the memories they shared together.

Gregory’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially his beloved son, Gregory L. Alston. Their bond was truly special and unmatched. More than father and son, they were best friends, partners, and constant companions. Whether they were watching sports, playing games—which Gregory proudly won most of the time—or simply talking on the phone every day, their relationship was built on love, laughter, trust, and respect. Their connection was one that many admired, and the countless memories they created together will live on forever.

Gregory also leaves to cherish his memory his devoted daughter-in-law, Wallesha Alston, and his bonus children, Demond Alston and Tamika Alston, who loved and respected him deeply.

He was the proud grandfather of three granddaughters and one grandson, and the loving great-grandfather of three great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure the time they shared with him.

Gregory was a passionate sports fan who faithfully cheered for the Buffalo Bills and loved watching the Chicago Bulls. Game days brought him great joy, especially when he could enjoy them alongside his son and family. Those moments of laughter, competition, and companionship became some of the most treasured memories of his life.

Those who knew Gregory will remember his warm spirit, kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved. He was the type of man who made people feel welcome, valued family above all else, and never missed an opportunity to share a story, a smile, or a word of encouragement. His legacy is one of loyalty, strength, compassion, and unconditional love.

To his son, Gregory was more than a father—he was a mentor, confidant, teammate, and best friend. The love they shared was evident to everyone who knew them. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
