Obituary

Evelyn Smith, age 80, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, departed this life peacefully and entered into eternal rest with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 19, 2024.  She was born on February 5, 1944, to the union of the late Calvin C. Hughes and Evelyn (Hughes) Dodson.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Calvin Arlington Hughes, Jr.

Evelyn was married to her late sweetheart Linwood Smith for 62 loving years, and from this union came three dedicated and devoted daughters, Conchita, Monique and Carla.

Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age and attended Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church in Fulton. Years later she joined and faithfully served at The Lord's Healing Church.  She had the heart of God and always cherished her deep relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.  She ensured that her family came into the saving knowledge of God's grace and mercy.

Evelyn received her early education at Webster Davis Elementary School in Fulton and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1962 where she was a member of the majorette squad.  She went to MCV Nursing School where she completed her studies and began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant.  She continued her studies to become a LPN and worked for Chippenham Hospital where she retired after many years of dedicated service.

Evelyn, in her youth, loved modern dancing, and sewing. She also loved competing in beauty pageants and won a few.  She also developed a love for home decorating, arts and crafts, cooking, and creating beautiful flower arrangements that she shared with family and friends.

Evelyn leaves to rejoice and cherish her memories, devoted daughters, Conchita Smith-Rustin (Rodney), Monique Smith (Leonard) and Carla; grandchildren, Carlos, Clifford Jr. "JR", Christopher, Christian and Raegan; four brothers, Woudy, Eric, Larry and Cedric Hughes; sister-in-law, Margie Smith Miller; brother-in-law, Jacob "Jake" Smith; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins whom she shared unique bonds with, and friends.
