Eva D.
Gray
d. Aug 20, 2025
Eva Delores Jackson Gray peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. She was born on June 25, 1929, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Floyd and Mary Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and three of her children: Aubrey, Rose, and Delores.
Originally from Buchanan Street, Eva was a devoted member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was educated in the Richmond Public School System and proudly attended Maggie Walker High School.
In 1948, Eva married the love of her life, Aubrey Louis Gray, Sr. From their union, five children were born: Aubrey Jr., Delores, Rose, Linda, and Earline.
After 30 years of dedicated service, Eva retired from the Medical College of Virginia, where she worked as a supervisor in the Housekeeping Department.
Eva possessed a sharp wit and an even sharper tongue, always followed by a soft hug and sage guidance to keep those around her on the right path. Her life was one of kindness, faithfulness, and strength. She was our foundation—the steady presence who inspired, encouraged, and led by example. A masterful cook, a stylish dresser, and a trusted confidant, she set the bar high for the generations who follow.
Whether she was known as Ma, Grandma, Gigi, Aunt Eva, or Ms. Gray, she held fast to a gentle and sympathetic nature, allowing everyone in her presence to feel cherished and appreciated. Always a lady, she believed deeply in dignity, kindness, and decorum—values she embodied until the very end.
Eva leaves to cherish her memory two devoted daughters, Linda Hartley and Earline Bess; 12 grandchildren, among them devoted Carol Hill and Karen Twyman and her loving husband (Calvin); 18 great-grandchildren, including devoted Samuel Twyman; 8 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Essie Gray and Frances Kittrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Her love, wisdom, and unwavering strength will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
