Doris M.
Turner
d. Oct 24, 2024
On the morning of October 24, 2024, God, in His infinite wisdom, whispered in our beloved Doris M. Turner's ear and told her to come on home, your work here is done-well done my good and faithful servant.
Doris Virginia Miles Turner, 93, was born on August 11, 1931, in Richmond, Virginia. She was the daughter of late Eddie and Eva Miles.
Doris attended Armstrong High School in Richmond, Virginia and graduated in 1949.
Doris accepted Christ at the early age of nine years old and she was a faithful member of the Cedar Street Baptist Church of God for well over 80 years until her health begin to decline and she could no longer attend service.
She spent her life being a caretaker, nurturer, teacher, a counselor, a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend to all those that came into her path on her life's journey. Professionally, Doris attended nursing school, graduated and began her career as an LPN at Medical College of Virginia where she was employed for over 35 years. During her career she received many accolades and awards for her outstanding commitment to the patients and staff that she worked with, truly blessed with the gift of having a heart for God's people.
As a mother and grandmother, you would find her serving in many different rolls-she was the driver, the chef, PTA President, the tutor at home at the kitchen table, the seamstress, the counselor, your advocate, whether you were right or wrong, your cheerleader, your representative for whatever you needed and whoever need to be called, she was surely going to make it happen! She not only did this for her children but family members, friends, neighbors, whoever was standing in the need at that moment. She never met a stranger-she welcomed you in and made you a part of her family.
Doris is preceded in death by her loving husband of many years Jessie "Slim" Turner; youngest son, Wayne Vincent Turner; brother, Eddie "Nick" Miles Jr.; and grandson Nathaniel "Nate" Bankston.
She leaves behind to cherish precious memories, two sons, Curtis M. Bassfield and Derek L. Turner (Dollree); daughter-in-law, C. Nicey Turner (Wayne); two loving sisters, Ellen Manning and Anita Hill. She leaves behind her wonderfully blessed grandchildren and great grandchildren; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
