Obituary

Deacon Larry Randolph Banks age 68, of Richmond, Virginia, departed this life on Monday, June 5, 2023 at VCU Health Systems. He was born on May 20, 1955 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Joyce Banks Winston.

Larry received his education in the Richmond Public School System. He was gainfully employed at Phillip Morris in Richmond, VA, retiring in February of 2005 after many years of dedicated service.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior many years ago and was baptized at Cedar Street Baptist Church. He attended CDFM for a number of years where he was ordained a Deacon. Deacon Larry later moved his membership to Shiloh Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, where he was Chairman of the Diaconate Ministry, a member of the Usher Board and the church Sexton until his death.

His favorite pastimes included spending time with family, watching the Lakers and Redskins play, and dancing. Deacon Larry was a faithful and longtime member of the "Just Us Travel Club" of Quinton, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joyce Banks Winston and Charles Winton; his grandparents, Hazel and Benjamin Banks Sr.; uncles, Benjamin Banks Jr., Kent Banks and Frank Banks; aunt, Louise Sayles; and brother-in-law, Kevin Jefferson Sr.

To cherish sweet memories of him, he leaves his one and only daughter, Ashley Michelle Banks (Tracy) of Rocky Mount, NC; granddog, Bay Bay; lifetime friend, Michelle Banks; aunt, Mary Eddleton; nieces and nephews Reginald, Jemel (Sasha), Tasha, Dr. Candice (Antoine) Heath, Corey, Quavell,  Danielle, Bernard, Eric, Demetrius, Stevon, Tony, Quandre, Kevin Jr. (Shannon), Derek, Jerquan, Marquetta, Deja, Bajon, Jesson and Imani; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jemesia, Ah'rea, Mikaela, Dajaun, Azari, Kamari,  Kaiden, Stephon, Kayala, Tavon, Julius, Landon, Lily, Jerqaun Jr., Jahari, Jayden, Khalil, Zah'cardi, Zah'cardi, Zion, Kennedy, MiKih, Karson and Ezakih; siblings, Rev. Dr. Patricia Heath (Linwood), Deacon Robert Sayles Jr. (Barbara), Russell Sayles (Delores), Valerie Grant, Consuela Saunders, Vivian Stephens, Wilhelmina Oakland and Byron Ross; sisters-in-law, Linda Weeden, Karen McBride (Kenneth), Cheryl Nero, Classerine "Cathy" Minns (Bernard), Lyniece Woolridge, and Yvette Davis (Tyrone); brothers-in-law, Frank Jefferson Jr. (Sonja), Raymond (Tajuana) Eddleton, and Bishop-elect MJ Jefferson; cousins, Quan Clay, Dellareesa Banks, Anita Banks, Gwen Banks Dorman, and Gail White Beatty; a host of friends and relatives, among them, devoted niece, India Clay (Quanna), goddaughter, Kelly  Anderson; devoted lifetime friends, Roslind Woody, Sharon Neal, Ralph Weever, Tyrone Davis, Howard Morris, Glenn Jones, Billy Hargrove, Pam Hargrove, Debbie Hargrove, and Randy Grave.

A special thanks to VCU Health Systems Massy Cancer center for all of their assistance as well as Dr. Mark Lutterbie.

In lieu of (or in addition to) flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Northampton County High School in care of the Girls' Basketball Teams.
