Crystal Elaine Seward, a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, entered into eternal rest on August 14, 2026, at the age of 70. A woman of Baptist faith, Crystal leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, laughter, family, and service that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Crystal was born on August 12, 1956, and grew up in Church Hill, Virginia. She was a proud 1974 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, where she was a member of the basketball team and marching band. Throughout her life, Crystal carried with her the determination, confidence, and lively spirit that those who knew her will always remember.
Crystal was a dedicated and hardworking woman. During her career, she worked as a Toll Collector for the Richmond, Virginia area, as well as at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital as a CNA and Hewlett Packard. She was also an in-home childcare provider for many years. Her love for children and her caring nature earned her the special title of “the neighborhood mom.” She opened her heart and her home to many, making children and families feel welcomed, safe, and loved.
Crystal was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Seward; father, Thomas A. Brown Sr.; brothers, “Buddy” Thomas A. Brown Jr. and Steven Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three loving daughters, LaSanda Thierry, Carrie Thierry, and Almedia Seward; caring mother, Carrie Bailey; beloved grandchildren “Trey” John Henry Hopkins III and Cai’el Holmes; and her aunt, Bettie Thomas.
She is also survived by her siblings, Elita Butler (Rodney), Thomas Taylor (Neicy), and Catherine Taylor, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
The family extends its deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the administration and caregivers of Chelsea Rehabilitation Center in Goochland, Virginia, who loved, supported, and cared for Crystal during the last few years of her life. Your compassion, kindness, patience, and dedication brought comfort to Crystal and peace to her family. Your care will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
