Arrelius Daniel "Butch" Pleasant, Jr., was born September 11, 1946 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Bernice W. Pleasant Lewis and Arrelius D. Pleasant, Sr.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Fourth Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Robert L. Taylor.

Butch graduated from Armstrong High School in 1964 and Virginia Commonwealth University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Anthropology.

His career included a tour of duty in the United States Army, employment with the United States Postal Service, positions in the Richmond Community Action Program (R-CAP), and retirement from the McGuire Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond.

Butch took great pride in working in the community with his mother and Rev. Benjamin Campbell. Rev. Campbell, the founder of Richmond Hill, was encouraged by Butch's journey, his work in the community, and his service with formerly incarcerated young men.

He leaves to mourn their loss his son, Arrelius "Trae" Pleasant, III; his daughter, Linsey Jones (Berkley); devoted companion, Brenda A. Johnson; grandchildren, A. Daniel Pleasant IV, Brooklyn Jones, and Jordyn Jones; two sisters, Carolyn W. Jacobs and Barbara W. Johnson; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
