Obituary

Mr. Arlington T. Robinson Sr., 92, of Richmond, Virginia, peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on June 18, 2025. Born in Richmond to the late William and Eudora Robinson, he was the youngest of seven children and a proud product of Richmond Public Schools, growing up on 27th Street.

On July 9, 1952, Arlington married the love of his life, Geraldine Robinson. Their beautiful union was blessed with three children and over five decades of love, devotion, and partnership.

A man deeply rooted in faith, Arlington was a longtime member of Cedar Street Baptist Church, where he served faithfully for over 50 years. He was the head of the usher board for many years and was well-known for joyfully decorating the church during the Christmas season. Even in his later years, he continued to "usher" from the back pew, always guiding, mentoring, and recruiting new members with a warm smile and quiet authority. Through God's words, he elevated those around him. A philanthropist, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends.

Arlington was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and provider. He lovingly cared for both his mother and his wife until their passings—examples of his selfless nature and deep loyalty.

He had an infectious smile, hearty laugh, was a man of many talents and a tireless worker. Arlington spent 50 years with the County of Henrico, retiring at the age of 72 to care for his beloved wife. He made history as one of the first Black foremen in his department, which was responsible for street signs and road markings. Outside of his formal work, he was a skilled craftsman, builder, and problem-solver—sewing drapes, tiling bathrooms, fixing anything broken, and even building his own furniture.

His yard was immaculate, his stories unforgettable, and his wisdom unmatched. Arlington had a gift for connecting with people—especially young men, whom he mentored with life lessons, laughter, and Scripture. He truly never met a stranger and was deeply respected simply for his presence, kindness, and character.

He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine; daughter, Arlette; and son, Reginald.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Arlington Robinson Jr.; a devoted daughter-in-law, Joetta Robinson; Reverend Bruce Jones (Letha) and Michael Green, grandchildren, Ashley, Rashell, Janae, and five others; eight great-grandchildren; cousin Reginald; sisters-in-law, Earlene Artist and Claudia Crandle; lifelong best friend of over 85 years, Royal Edwards; devoted friend Ronnie Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins—including Ken and Hazel Bishop—other special relatives, and many friends who deeply loved and respected him.

Arlington T. Robinson was a pillar of strength, service, and faith—a man who gave much and asked for little. His impact will live on in every life he touched. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
