André E.
Yancey
d. Oct 7, 2024
André Ernestine Yancey, affectionately known as "Aunnie" by her closest friends, was born on December 29, 1947, to the late Andrew and Beatrice Yancey. She was called to her heavenly home on Monday, October 7, 2024. Surrounded by her loving family, André passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and kindness.
André graduated from Armstrong High School in 1965, where she excelled as an athlete, particularly enjoying tennis throughout her life. She proudly served our country in the Army Reserves for two years before beginning her distinguished career with the Richmond City Police Department, from which she retired on June 30, 2006. After retirement, she went back into the work force for a few years working for Richmond Public Schools, Chiles Funeral Home, and Walter J Manning Funeral Home.
A devout Catholic, André lived her life guided by the principles of her faith, becoming a beacon of hope and compassion to all who knew her. She was an active and dedicated member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she served in the Usher and Greeter Ministry and assisted with the Eucharist during Mass.
André was a loving mother to Edward and embraced Katisha and Donyale as her own daughters through the love and guidance she shared with them. She was also a cherished grandmother to Tahtyana and Xena (grand-dog). Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family, sharing her wisdom, strength, and unwavering love. She was a source of comfort and support to her loved ones, always ensuring that everyone felt cared for.
She will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and dedication to helping others. André had a talent for making people feel seen and valued, whether through a home-cooked meal or a small act of kindness. She loved to shop, spending many hours at thrift stores, online, or at Macy's, often choosing roses to brighten the day for herself and others.
André is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Beatrice Yancey; her brother, Dr. Anthony Yancey; her grandson, Khennan Marrow; and her aunt, Mildred Yancey. She is survived by her son, Edward Marrow Jr. (Katisha); her sister, Shirley Anderson; her sister-in-law, Martha Yancey; her granddaughter, Tahtyana; her beloved grand-dog, Xena; a niece, Damaris (Henry); two nephews, Joshua and Justin; three great-nieces, Taiwan, Tequoia, and Tamirrah; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
André's life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and compassion. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
