Alefia C.
Thomas
d. Jul 4, 2024
Alefia Thomas passed away Thursday July 4, 2024, after a decades long battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Alefia was born on November 19, 1972, in Queens, New York to Barbara and Roy Thomas.
She was a shy quiet child, but she definitely found her voice in young adulthood. From an early age she loved babies and after high school pursued a degree in Early Childhood Education, while also working in her chosen field for a time.
At the age of sixteen while reading, Alefia began seeing red flashes which led to a diagnosis of Optic neuritis and is an early sign of the disease MS. Unfortunately, in 1991 a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the age of nineteen would derail her college and career aspirations as she dealt with bouts of vision loss and additional symptoms.
Alefia loved her children, Chyna and Carson, and did her best to raise them as her health continually declined from the uncurable disease that is MS. Sadly, instead of her being their caregiver, they eventually became caregivers to her. Determined to not allow MS to stop her from experiencing the joys of life, after eleven years of friendship she married Nathaniel Jones.
Alefia began to draw close to Jehovah God and develop her own personal relationship with him, dedicating herself to him which she symbolized by public baptism in July 2009. At her baptism Alefia's disease had progressed to the point her mobility was limited, and she utilized a wheelchair.
In 2016 Alefia began receiving full time care in long term care facilities. Where she would let others know, she was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and gave a witness when able. Despite all of her personal challenges, Alefia often maintained an amazingly positive attitude! She loved her family and thought of others, which was reflected in her many phone calls to those she cared for. Just like her dad, they showed much of their love through food and phone calls!
She was strong and fought her disease with all she had, succumbing to her disease after thirty-five years. She treasured the promise of Revelation 21: 3, 4 a promise from Jehovah God to wipe away all causes of pain and tears of heartache and looked forward to one day walking again.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her mother Barbara, her daughter Chyna, her son Carson, her grandson Chance, her granddaughter Maurella, her sisters Sharon (Charles Jr.) Regine, Jacole (Aubrey), her brother Darryl (Amy) bonus sisters, Delphine, Paula, Senora, her nieces La-Tia (Jarrell), Jade, and Sophia, her nephews Charles III (Samantha), Brandon, Troy, Darryl Jr. (Cherise), Navaughn (Christina), Malachi, and Michael. A dear Uncle William, Aunt Virginia, Uncle Ray and Mark along with a multitude of great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
